I believe ideally art (and guitars for that matter) should be purchased in person. In person you get to see exactly what the painting looks like. No photoshop as done by some to enhance colors. Just the pure painting itself.
I have noticed the difference from seeing paintings in books and then seeing the actual painting in person. There is nearly always a big difference. For example the colors in Van Gogh’s paintings are never as vibrant as they appear in books. This is really a disgrace to the painting.
The problem is that selling a painting directly is difficult because you have to have a venue and people have to be able to get to that venue. This has been even more complicated with COVID-19 restrictions.
