A lily pond where the lily pads appear as bubble gum globs in blue water and green grass around.

“Bubble Gun Lily Pond” by Robert MacDonald

Typically, before I start a painting I have an idea in my head what it is going to look like. Sometimes I go into great detail and studies even before I touch the canvas. But there are occasions when the paint takes over. That’s what happened on “Bubble Gum Lily Pond”. It started as a Monet inspired lily pond but soon the varying colors took charge. They seemed to just jump by themselves onto the canvas! After the last stroke and I put the brush down it was as if someone had just unveiled the painting to me! The bold colors harmonized with each other and it almost looked like it was made out of fresh juicy “Bubble Gum”.
