Description

Umbrella Girl #1 introduces one of Juan Mira’s original characters, a confident female counterpart to Peter Max’s familiar Umbrella Man. Seen from behind beneath a wide-brimmed fedora, she stands beneath a blade-shaped umbrella with a feather at her shoulder, creating a figure with her own identity, symbolism, and quiet strength.
About the Artwork
Mira began with the broad visual idea of Peter Max’s Umbrella Man, then created a distinct character of his own. Her blade-shaped umbrella reverses a traditional symbol of manhood, while her posture and wide-brimmed fedora give her an unmistakable confidence. The feather at her shoulder represents her freedom to become whatever she chooses.
Umbrella Girl #1 became the first figure in a growing cast of original Mira characters that includes Umbrella Couple, Neo Man, Neo Sisters, Neo Dad, Balloon Man, and Umbrella Dog. Together, they form a parallel world with its own relationships, humor, and quiet moments.

Each Collector Edition is hand-assembled in limited production and individually registered at the time of purchase.
The Artist
Juan Mira’s style traces back to a childhood surrounded by Peter Max’s imagery, an influence that has remained with him throughout his career. He often works with themes associated with Max, including umbrella figures, sunsets, hearts, and flags, then develops them through his own compositions and characters.
Mira also introduces touches of realism alongside bold Pop Art color, and in some paintings creates a trompe-l’œil frame directly on the canvas for a faux-framed effect. Over time, this has grown into a distinct catalog of original Mira characters and compositions, created in the spirit of the tradition Peter Max helped define.
